In 2008, Paula Downes embarked on a long-term project of combining film images with songs by her father, Andrew Downes. A fusion of three elements, the films interpret the songs, just as the songs interpret the poetry. Her first five short films, Songs from Spoon River, were showcased at the Spring Selection of the American Online Film Awards, 2014, and were voted as one of the top ten films in the foreign music video category before being chosen as one of three nominees.
